Historic Mining & Railroad Towns
Bahbees Barn is nestled in an area rich with pioneer spirit and Old West history.
- Caliente (7 miles south): A classic railroad town situated at the mouth of Rainbow Canyon. Stroll down Clover Street, visit the historic train depot and caboose museum, or relax in the natural hot springs the town is named for (the host springs are private, and part of Hot Springs Motel).
- Panaca (7 miles north): A peaceful, 150-year-old pioneer farming settlement. Enjoy the quiet, tree-lined streets surrounded by irrigated pastures.
- Pioche (21 miles north): Step back in time in this rugged 1870s mining boom town. Explore the old opera house, the 100-year-old courthouse, the original aerial ore tram, and the infamous “Boot Hill” cemetery.
- Delemar and other ghost towns: Within 50 miles of the area you can find more than a dozen ghost towns to explore, the majority are mining boom towns, but there are six or seven abandoned railroad towns as well.
State Parks & Recreation
With five state parks just a short drive away (most offering highly affordable, modern RV camping), your guests can turn your event into a scenic vacation.
- Cathedral Gorge: Just outside of Panaca, spend the day exploring miles of trails and the refreshingly cool, deeply eroded “moon slot” canyons.
- Kershaw-Ryan & Elgin School House : Within a mile of Caliente you will find a lush oasis nestled in the mouth of Rainbow Canyon featuring hiking trails, native wild grapes cascading down cliff sides, and beautiful grassy garden spaces. Twenty miles further down Rainbow Canyon and managed by Kershaw Ryan, you can explore a restored one room school house at the old Elgin town site.
- Echo Canyon & Spring Valley: Enjoy two beautiful reservoirs perfect for fishing, small boating, and wildlife viewing. Spring Valley also features preserved historical pioneer farms.
- Beaver Damn State Park: Explore a valley with a year round stream flowing in the bottom. Beaver Damn State park is an 2900 acre off grid park featuring deep volcanic canyons, rushing streams, and stately ponderosa pine and pinyon-juniper forests.
Endless Adventure
For the outdoor enthusiast, Lincoln County offers over 1,000 miles of OHV trails, public trilobite fossil digging at Oak Springs Pass, historic charcoal kilns, and numerous ghost towns waiting to be explored. For those looking to venture further, four national parks are within a day trip’s distance. The awe-inspiring Great Basin National Park is an easy day trip up Highway 93. Lake Mead National Park and recreation area or the same distance in the opposite direction. Brice Canyon and Zion’s National Parks are two hours drive to the east in Utah.
